1. Install the batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the Zircon HD55 Stud Finder. Insert the 9V battery, ensuring that it is installed in the correct direction.
2. Power on the device: Press and hold down the power button found at the side of the device.
3. Calibrate the device: Hold the Stud finder flat against the wall, make sure you press and hold the button for calibration until you hear a beep sound or until the lighted ring turns green. Don’t release the power button during scanning.
4. Scan the wall: Slide the stud finder slowly over the wall where you want to find the stud. The device will make a noise or light will turn on when it finds a stud.
5. Mark the location: Mark the edge points where the indicator lights up, and continue scanning until the signal disappears to find the other edge.
6. Double-check: Scan again in the opposite direction to ensure you’ve found the actual edges, the middle of these edges is the center of studs.
Remember always to move the sensor slowly across the wall, don't slide the sensor on the wall fast because the device can lose detection. If you start over, be sure to recalibrate your device. Note: Keep the device away from metal, cordless phone or computer before you calibrate and use, the proximity of electronic devices may interfere with the calibration or detection. Also, avoid scanning from an electrical box or metal fasteners as a starting point because they might throw off the calibration.
